Cabildo of La Gomera Launches Fourth Edition of 'Yo Compro en La Gomera' Consumer Voucher Program
In a significant boost to the local economy, the Cabildo of La Gomera is set to launch the fourth edition of the 'Yo Compro en La Gomera' (I Shop in La Gomera) consumer voucher program this Tuesday, November 12, 2024. This initiative is designed to support and revitalize the island's small and medium-sized businesses.
New Features and Improvements
This year's edition introduces several innovative features aimed at enhancing the program's impact. For the first time, the vouchers will be categorized by municipality, with six different types of vouchers available, each corresponding to one of the island's municipalities: Agulo, Alajeró, Hermigua, San Sebastián, Valle Gran Rey, and Vallehermoso. This localized approach is intended to redistribute spending more evenly across the island.
Purchase and Usage Details
The sale of these vouchers will commence at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, November 12, and can be purchased online through the dedicated website www.yocomproenlagomera.com. Each user can buy up to 10 vouchers per municipality, with a total limit of 60 vouchers per person if they purchase the maximum allowed in each municipality.
The vouchers have a face value of 20 euros, but consumers will pay significantly less due to subsidies provided by the Cabildo. For instance, vouchers associated with the municipalities of Agulo, Hermigua, and Vallehermoso will be available at a 60% discount, costing consumers 8 euros per voucher. Vouchers for Alajeró, San Sebastián, and Valle Gran Rey will be offered at a 50% discount, priced at 10 euros each.
Economic Impact
This campaign is expected to inject approximately 2.8 million euros into the local economy, with the issuance of 140,000 vouchers. According to Abbas Moujir, president of the Federation of Urban Areas of the Canary Islands (FAUCA), the primary goal is to prevent spending from leaking to other islands or commercial formats, thereby supporting the local small and medium-sized businesses.
Key Figures and Participants
The launch event was attended by key figures including María Isabel Méndez, the insular counselor for Commerce and Consumption, Beatrice Bendinelli, responsible for the management of the voucher campaign at FAUCA, and Carlos Sabina, a collaborator with FAUCA.
How to Use the Vouchers
The vouchers can be redeemed in a single purchase or multiple purchases, but they cannot be combined with vouchers from other individuals to pay for a single transaction. Consumers can find detailed information on the participating establishments, the discount system, and the terms of use on the website.
This initiative underscores the Cabildo's commitment to supporting local commerce and ensuring that the economic benefits stay within the community, making it an attractive and beneficial program for both residents and visitors to La Gomera.
